In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be the child or grandchild of a GCSAA member. The parent or grandparent must have been a GCSAA member for five or more consecutive years and must be a currently active GCSAA member in one of the following classifications: A, Superintendent Member, C, Retired-A, Retired-B, or AA Life. The competition is open to natural or adoptive offspring of GCSAA members. Children or grandchildren of deceased members are also eligible if the member was active at the time of his/her death.
  2. Must be enrolled or be planning to enroll full time at an accredited institution of higher learning. Please note: If the applicant is currently serving or has served in any branch of the military, they are eligible if they are enrolled in a minimum of three credit hours per every nine weeks at an accredited institution of higher learning, technical school, or online program.
  3. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  4. Must be an incoming or current undergraduate student.

Description: International and U.S. high school seniors or current undergraduate students who are enrolled full time (unless current or former military) at an accredited institution are eligible for this award. Students must be the children/grandchildren of a member of The Golf Course Superintendents Association of America (GCSAA).

  • Acceptance letter (high school seniors)
Additional Information: Applicants will be evaluated based on academic achievement, extracurricular and community involvement, leadership, outside employment, and their composition of an original 500-word essay on any aspect of the golf course industry. Financial need is not a factor in the selection. Applications will be reviewed by an independent committee consisting of three high school educators and three college administrators. All decisions of the committee will be final. Applicants will be notified of their status by mail by June 15 of the year submitted. All scholarship award checks will be made payable to the applicant and his/her educational institution. Any number of students from the same family may apply, and all are eligible to receive an award in the same year. Children of those employed by Syngenta Professional Products, the Environmental Institute for Golf's Board of Trustees, the GCSAA Board of Directors, and GCSAA staff are not eligible for this program.

Award Amount: $1,500 annually, non-renewable. Past winners are ineligible to apply the following year. They may reapply after a one-year hiatus.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,500.

Applications are available online from the Environment Institute for Golf (EIG) website. In addition to the completed online application, each student must supply the following materials: an original essay of 500 words or less on any topic related to the golf industry (cannot have been previously submitted to GCSAA/EIFG); transcripts from all high schools and colleges attended; and a letter of acceptance, if a high school senior. All application materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
