Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to four awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, for the upcoming fall semester at time of application.
  4. Must be enrolled as a full- or part-time student during the upcoming fall semester to receive the scholarship.
  5. Must pursue a mortuary science program.
  6. Must attend a school accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE). A list of ABFSE-accredited schools is available online at www.abfse.org/html/dir-listing.html.

Description: U.S. students who are enrolled in, or accepted into, a mortuary science program at an ABFSE-accredited school for the upcoming fall semester are eligible for this award. Students may enroll part time or full time.

Application requirements for the Memorial Classic Golf Tournament Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The Memorial Classic Golf Tournament Scholarship, established in 2010 by the Foundation's Board of Trustees, was created to honor those who have blazed a trail in the profession. Scholarships will be awarded without regard to race, religious beliefs, age, national origin, or disability. Students may receive only one scholarship from the FSF. Candidates will be notified of the scholarship decision in August.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable. Previous recipients may not reapply.Funding is sent directly to the school in the fall term; under no circumstances will the Funeral Service Foundation make a payment directly to the student. Funding may be used for tuition and fees, books, and supplies.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Applications are available on the Funeral Service Foundation (FSF) website and are accepted between February 15 and March 30 during spring, and October 15 to November 30 in fall. In addition to the completed application, the applicant must submit: a copy of his/her acceptance letter to an American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE)-approved school or an official statement verifying his/her enrollment for the upcoming fall semester; and an original essay of 500 to 1,000 words explaining why he/she chose to enter the funeral service profession and discussing what he/she foresees as the greatest new opportunity for funeral service. Please note: If the student is applying for more than one FSF scholarship, he/she must submit a separate application and essay for each scholarship. (Each scholarship has a unique essay topic.) Only one acceptance letter/enrollment verification is required. Applications must be submitted online by the deadline date.
