Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident (green card holder).
  3. Must be a minority student of Black or African American, Hispanic or Latino, or Native American ethnicity.
  4. Must attend school on a full-time basis and plan to remain enrolled full time until attaining the doctoral degree.
  5. Must have earned a master's degree and/or completed three or more years of full-time experience in the accounting practice. The applicant must be a CPA or plan to pursue the CPA credential.
  6. Must have applied to a doctoral program and be awaiting word on acceptance, have been accepted into a doctoral program, or be currently matriculated in a doctoral program and pursuing appropriate coursework.

Description: U.S. minority students who are enrolled or plan to enroll in a doctoral accounting program are eligible for this award. Students must enroll full time and be or plan to become a CPA.

Additional Information: The AICPA Fellowship for Minority Doctoral Students ensures that CPAs of diverse backgrounds are visible in college and university classrooms. The program's goal is to increase the number of minority CPAs who serve as role models and mentors to young people in the academic environment. Applicants must agree not to work full-time in a paid position or accept responsibility for teaching more than one course per semester as a teaching assistant, or dedicate more than one quarter of their time as a research assistant. Applicants that have applied for the program will be notified of the selection committee's determination by June.

Award Amount: $12,000  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $12,000.

Applications are available online from the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: an official academic transcript from each institution from which he/she has received a degree; and confidential references from two individuals. The application and supporting documents must be submitted online by 11:59 p.m. EST on the deadline date.
