Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. In prior years, there were 40 scholarships awarded.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have resided in North Carolina for one year or more.
  3. Must be enrolled in a North Carolina college or university.
  4. Must have completed one or more college- or university-level accounting course AND must have completed 36 or more semester hours (or the equivalent) by the start of the year in which he/she is applying.
  5. Must be enrolled in an academic program yielding a degree in accounting or its equivalent, by the time scholarship money is awarded.
  6. Must have a cumulative and accounting coursework grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  7. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.

Description: This scholarship is open to North Carolina students who are enrolled in an academic program yielding a degree in accounting or its equivalent and have completed 36 or more semester hours. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the North Carolina CPA Foundation Scholarship Program are:

Additional Information: The essay will weigh substantially in the scholarship awarding process. The reviewers (members of the accounting education subcommittee) will consider grammar, punctuation, organization, style, content, creativity, and appropriate references or citations when applicable. The weight of each required component is as follows: essay content, 35 percent; essay grammar, etc., 35 percent; extracurricular work/activities, 30 percent. Applicants must be sponsored by one accounting faculty member who can be contacted by the Foundation via email.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable. All qualified applicants will be automatically offered a complimentary one-year membership with the North Carolina Association of CPAs. Previous recipients may reapply. There is a three-year maximum limit for awards per student.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available on the North Carolina CPA Foundation (NCCPAF) website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following materials: an essay of 500 to 1,000 words on the current year's topic as posted on the NCCPAF website (must be composed in Microsoft Word); and unofficial transcripts of all course work completed, to include the fall semester of the year of application. The application and essay must be submitted online. The transcript must be mailed to the address provided. Online materials must be submitted by midnight on the deadline date, and transcripts must be postmarked by the deadline date.
