Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies from year to year. Last year, nine awards were offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a high school senior graduating from a public high school.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Must be pursuing a degree in, or closely related to, a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) discipline.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must be a member of an underrepresented group in STEM careers.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Description: This award is for U.S. high school seniors who will be attending college in the fall. Applicants must be a member of an underrepresented group, have a minimum 3.0 grade point average and be pursuing a major in a STEM field; Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. Additional Information: NSHSS Foundation STEM scholarships are created to help reduce financial barriers for high school seniors interested in entering college to pursue STEM majors--Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics. The scholarships are for entering college freshmen who belong to underrepresented groups in STEM careers. The scholarships are to be used for the student's first year of college. Students must indicate interest in one of the following majors or disciplines and show evidence of interest through academic courses taken or participation in programs indicating such interest. The Foundation awards scholarships to applicants who are pursuing a degree in, or closely related to, one of the listed STEM disciplines.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the National Society of High School Scholars Foundation website. Along with a completed application, students must submit the following materials: teacher recommendation, transcript, personal statement, and photograph, and a 500-word essay. All application materials must be completed online by the deadline date.
