In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must major in accounting.
  3. Must attend an accredited college or university within the state of Washington.
  4. Must be entering his/her junior year or higher in fall 2018. Fifth year, master's, and Ph.D. candidates as well as community college transfers are encouraged to apply.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher (or the equivalent) in accounting courses and overall.

Description: This scholarship is open to students who are accounting majors and will be college juniors or higher in the upcoming fall term at an accredited Washington college or university. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and be involved in on-campus, off-campus, or community activities.

Additional Information: Applicants must be involved in on-campus, off-campus, or community activities. Scholarships are awarded at the discretion of the Washington CPA Foundation Scholarship Committee based on merit. Scholarships are awarded without regard to age, gender, race, creed, religion, ethnic or national origin, or sexual orientation.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Scholarships are for tuition only and will be paid directly to the college or university listed. The Washington CPA Foundation will not authorize release of the scholarship funds directly to the recipient. Responsibility for ensuring that the monies can be used for the quarter/semester granted lies solely with the recipient.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Scholarship information is available on the Washington Society of CPAs website. Applications are hosted online on the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) website at www.thiswaytocpa.com/education/scholarship-search/wscpa-scholarships/. Students must submit the application via the AICPA online system. Each student must upload the following materials to the online application: two essays of 250 to 500 words each addressing the topics listed on the application (must be .doc or .pdf); a current resume including jobs, internships (paid or unpaid), volunteer positions, and leadership roles on campus or in the community; unofficial transcripts from all colleges/universities attended; and documentation of accounting major ('accounting' listed as major on transcript sufficient). Each student must also provide the names and email addresses of two references who have agreed to provide a recommendation on your behalf. One letter must be from either a faculty member, employer, mentor, or a licensed CPA. Letters must be on company or college/university letterhead. After submission of the reference information, an email will be sent to the recommender with instructions on how to upload his/her letter of recommendation. Applications must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. PST on the deadline date.
