Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies annually. This year, the PBK Alumni Association anticipates offering two awards.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must attend Edward Waters College, Flagler College, Jacksonville University, or the University of North Florida. Students must have attended their college for a minimum of one year (25-30 credit hours) at time of application.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale in all college-level work at all institutions. Some courses in the humanities should be taken in college; AP credit will not be enough.
  4. Must have declared a major in one of the humanities disciplines, social or behavioral sciences, or natural sciences. Please note: Art and music students may apply if their course work has been mainly of a non-applied nature, e.g. art history or musicology, rather than drawing or voice. Education majors may apply, but must have the equivalent of 30 hours in the humanities disciplines, social or behavioral sciences, or natural sciences.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must be a current junior or senior college student who has earned 60 or more college credit hours.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Current college juniors or seniors with 60 or more credits and a 3.5 grade point average who attend Edward Waters College, Jacksonville University, Flagler College, or the University of North Florida are eligible to apply for this award. Students must major in the humanities, social/behavioral sciences, or natural sciences.

Application requirements for the Northeast Florida Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Financial need is not a consideration for this scholarship, as selection is based on academic excellence. Winners will be honored at the association's Spring Banquet.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Application information is available online at the Phi Beta Kappa Alumni Association of Northeast Florida website. There is no application form required for this scholarship: students must first contact Phi Beta Kappa for specific application instructions, and then submit the required materials to be considered. To apply, the student must submit the following materials: a brief essay that addresses how the course of his/her education and future goals reflect the mission of the Phi Beta Kappa (PBK) Society; a resume that includes all information listed on the scholarship guidelines document; two letters of reference, at least one of which must be from a college professor who is familiar with his/her academic work (quality of the letters of reference is crucial); and current official transcripts from all institutions attended (must include cumulative grade point average). Materials must be typed, double-spaced, and limited to 500 words. Application materials must be sent to the attention of Prof. Timothy Johnson at the email address provided, and must be received by the deadline date.
