‘Pennies for Art’ Scholarship

Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually. If there is sufficient funding, the GFWC of Massachusetts may offer more than one award.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Massachusetts.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must attend a high school in Massachusetts.
  5. Must have an interest in art.
  6. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.

Description: This scholarship is available for Massachusetts high school seniors. Applicants must submit a portfolio with three original pieces of art.

Application requirements for the ‘Pennies for Art’ Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Recommendation letter
  • Official Transcript
  • Original Artwork
Additional Information: The award winner must notify the GFWC of Massachusetts treasurer by mail of the college he/she will attend, college identification number, and address of the office handling student accounts. Each award winner must matriculate at the college of his/her choice no later than Feb. 1 of the year following the deadline date. The scholarship winner and one guest will be invited to attend a scholarship luncheon at the GFWC of Massachusetts State Convention. Further details will be sent to the scholarship recipient upon notification of the award.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable. The award is for tuition only and will be sent directly to the recipient's college.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available on the General Federation of Women's Clubs (GFWC) of Massachusetts website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit a portfolio including three original examples of artwork (matted, not framed, and not larger than 12" by 18" overall dimension). The student should print his/her name and address on the back of each example and on the portfolio and include a postage paid envelope so the portfolio can be returned. All required materials must be sent together (in one package) to the scholarship chairman of the sponsoring club, and must be received by the deadline date.
