Number of Awards & Eligibility: Six awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll full time at an accredited four-year college or university.
  3. Must have a burning desire to become a professional speaker, regardless of major. This desire must be demonstrated through experience or clearly expressed in an essay.
  4. Must be a college sophomore or older at time of application. The student may be a sophomore, transfer student or in an accelerated learning program, but must be entering or beyond the second half of his/her undergraduate education or a graduate student by Sept. 15 of the scholarship year.

Description: This award is available for international and U.S. college juniors, seniors and/or graduate students with an interest to become a public speaker, regardless of major. Professional speakers and trainers, speech educators and those who want to or are using their speaking talents for improving the lives of others should apply for this award.

Application requirements for the National Speakers Association Foundation Scholarship are:

  • URL to speaking video (opt.)
Additional Information: All applications will be reviewed by NSA's Scholarship Committee and final selections will be made in July at the annual convention. Recipients will be notified in early August. Hardship and financial need may be considered. The final decision is not based solely on financial need. No relative or employee of a current member of the board of directors of the NSA, the NSA Foundation, the scholarship selection committee of the NSA or the administrative staff of the NSA is eligible for a scholarship.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable. The recipients will receive $2,500 immediately after notification and another $2,500 in early January.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

The 2023 Application Submission Process will open Wednesday, March 1, 2023 Online applications due: Sunday, April 30, 2023 References completed by: Monday, May 8, 2023 Transcripts received by: Monday, May 8, 2023 Information about this award is available on the National Speakers Association (NSA) websiten and students may request an application by contacting member services using the email address provided above. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: an essay of no more than 500 words addressing his/her career objective, desire to be a professional speaker and how he/she will use his/her skills in oral communications; a letter of recommendation from a speech teacher or the speech/communications department head or dean (with contact information for verification); and an official college transcript of completed college work (received by June 1). The applicant must not staple, paper clip, or attach any forms together. The application must be postmarked by the deadline.
