Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 47 awards were given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.
  4. Must pursue a course of study leading to a career in the automotive aftermarket or a related field.
  5. Must be enrolled full time and expect to remain enrolled full time for the first full semester following receipt of the award.
  6. Must be at one of the following levels in his/her educational studies: a graduate-level student at an accredited college or university; a student at a four-year accredited college or university who has completed a minimum of 50 credit hours; a student at a two-year accredited community college who has completed a minimum of 25 credit hours; or a student at a vocational/technical school who has completed a minimum of 25 credit hours. The applicant's expected graduation date must be Dec. 1 or later.

Description: This award is available for U.S. college sophomores, juniors, seniors and graduate students who are pursuing a course of study leading to a career in the automotive aftermarket or a related field. Students must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Additional Information: High school seniors are not eligible to apply. An independent selection committee will evaluate the applications and select the winners based on: academic achievements and records; extracurricular and community involvement; work experience; essay content; and recommendations. Note: Decisions of the selection committee are final and are not subject to appeal. Notifications are typically emailed in July and August.

Award Amount: $2,000 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Students may reapply each year as long as they continue to meet eligibility criteria. For students planning on attending Ohio Technical College (OTC), a full-tuition scholarship (valued up to $29,400) will be awarded to one student.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available on the Specialty Equipment Market Association (SEMA) website. Students may only apply online for this award. To access the application, the applicant must click the 'apply now' link and then register using his/her email address and a chosen password. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit his/her transcripts; two essays as detailed within the application; and one letter of recommendation. The student does not need to submit official transcripts. If he/she is unable to upload his/her transcripts into the application, he/she must print a cover page and fax or mail a copy. The cover page is required for processing attachments that are not uploaded. The only acceptable file formats are: .pdf, .tif, .png, .gif, .jpeg, and .bmp. Any other file formats will not be reviewed and will result in an incomplete application. All materials must be submitted by 11:59 p.m. PST on the deadline date. All documents must arrive together for the submission to be considered complete. Incomplete applications will not be considered.
