Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately eleven awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a full-time student.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  3. Must have an approved research topic relating to some field of science or engineering encompassed by the technical activities of AIAA.
  4. Must be an AIAA student member in good standing to apply and must continue their membership during the time the scholarship is offered should they be selected.
  5. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  6. Must be a graduate student.
  7. Must be attending a college or university in the U.S. or its territories.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. and international graduate students studying at a U.S. institution. Applicants must be active members of AIAA, have a 3.3 grade point average, and be conducting research in a subject area relevant to the technical activities of AIAA.

Additional Information: The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics Foundation, in conjunction with AIAA Technical Committees (TCs), is seeking applications for the AIAA Foundation Graduate Awards. These awards are intended for graduate-level students who indicate, by their approved department research, an interest in any of the areas listed. The purpose of this program is to provide awards to qualified students actively participating in these specific research endeavors as part of their graduate studies. These endeavors include master's or doctoral thesis research and master's (non-thesis option) research projects. The Foundation and TCs provide seven named awards and four open topic awards. The named awards include: Martin Summerfield Propellants and Combustion Graduate Award, Guidance, Navigation, and Control Graduate Award, Gordon C. Oates Air Breathing Propulsion Graduate Award, William T. Piper, Sr. General Aviation Systems Graduate Award, Luis de Florez Graduate Award, and the John Leland Atwood Graduate Award. A list of acceptable technical areas for research may be found on the AIAA website.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $55,000.

Applications will be accepted after Oct. 1 and will be accepted until Jan. 31. All completed applications and transcripts must be received on or before the deadline date.
