Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of the Hilo Coast and the Hamakua Coast, north of the Wailuku River, in Hawaii.
  3. Must major in agriculture, science, medicine or nursing.
  4. Must attend or plan to attend an accredited two- or four-year college or university as a full-time student (12 credits per semester for undergraduate; 9 credits per semester for graduate).
  5. Must demonstrate academic achievement with a grade point average of 2.7 or higher.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  7. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award.

Description: This scholarship is available for undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring in agriculture, science, medicine, or nursing and have a grade point average of 2.7 or higher. Students must be residents of the Hilo Coast and the Hamakua Coast, north of the Wailuku River, in Hawaii.

Additional Information: Hawai'i Community Foundation's scholarship program is made up of over 100 different scholarship funds established by generous individuals, businesses, or organizations to assist Hawai'i residents in obtaining a college education. Some of the funds are part of the Hawai'i Community Foundation and some represent private foundations that have asked the Hawai'i Community Foundation to administer their scholarships. In addition to other requirements, applicants must also demonstrate financial need and good moral character.

Award Amount: Approximately $2,000 annually, non-renewable. Students may re-apply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Online application forms are available on the Hawai'i Community Foundation website. The student should visit the Hawai'i Community Foundation's website for detailed instructions on how to complete the online application. In addition to the online application form, the student must submit the following supporting materials: the printed confirmation page that is generated after applying online; a typed, double-spaced personal statement of two to three pages answering the questions listed on the website; an official copy of his/her most recent transcript; and a copy of his/her SAR (Student Aid Report). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The student will also be required to provide the name of the ABC Stores employee under whom he/she is applying and the employee's relationship to him/her. Note: Students WILL NOT be able to submit his/her application until all required supporting documents are electronically attached to the application. Applications must be submitted by 4 p.m. HST.
