Number of Awards & Eligibility: 10 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of the city of New York.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must have an SAT score of 1000 or higher.
  5. Must plan to attend one of the following colleges/universities in the state of New York: Barnard College, Baruch College, Brooklyn College, City College, Columbia University, Fordham University, Long Island University (Brooklyn campus), New York University, Pace University, Polytechnic University, St. Francis College, or St. John's University.
  6. Must be a graduating high school senior at time of application.
  7. Must rank in the top 15 percent of his/her class.

Additional Information: The Thomas G. Labrecque Smart Start Scholarship Program was established in 1992 as part of JPMorgan Chase & Co.'s commitment to the Brooklyn community. Selection of recipients for the Thomas G. Labrecque Smart Start Scholarship is based on academic achievement, motivation, flexibility, maturity, initiative, leadership, communication skills, ability to balance numerous priorities, and financial need. Participation in the Thomas G. Labrecque Smart Start Scholarship program provides the following: a paid internship at JPMorgan Chase throughout the student's four years of college which includes specific work assignments, on-the-job training, a full-time schedule in the summer and a part-time schedule during the school year; funds for books and supplies ($500 per year); a support network of mentors, peer advisors and a Smart Start program manager to assist in assimilation into a corporate environment; and career planning and development. Scholarship awardees will be notified the last week of April.

Award Amount: Full tuition, a paid internship at JPMorgan Chase, and a $750 stipend are awarded annually, renewable for three years.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $77,530.

Applications are available online on the JPMorgan Chase & Co. website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit an official transcript of grades, official SAT and ACT scores, and a personal or professional letter of recommendation from an individual listed on the application. Applicants must also submit a Student Aid Report (SAR). The Student Aid Report (SAR) is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted through the online application and must be completed no later than the deadline date.
