Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 15 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Washington.
  3. Must attend a public or independent college or university in the state of Washington.
  4. Must be enrolled or plan to enroll full time in an eligible program.
  5. Must have close cultural and social ties to an American Indian community in Washington state.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  7. Must not be pursuing a degree in theology.
  8. Must be a graduating high school senior or current undergraduate/graduate student.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available to Washington undergraduate and graduate students who are currently attending or planning to attend a postsecondary institution in Washington. The student must have close cultural and social ties to an American Indian community in Washington.

Application requirements for the Washington American Indian Endowed Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The American Indian Endowed Scholarship is a state program, administered by the Washington Higher Education Coordinating Board, established to encourage outstanding, financially needy students with close social and cultural ties to a Native American community to pursue undergraduate and graduate studies. The award is based on the financial need of the student. Recipients are selected on the basis of academic merit and a commitment to serve the American Indian community in Washington. Scholarships are awarded from the interest earnings of an endowment established from funds appropriated by the Washington State Legislature with matching contributions from tribes, individuals, and organizations. Recipients must agree to use his/her education to benefit other American Indians and must not be pursuing a degree in theology. Priority is given to upper-division and graduate students.

Award Amount: $500 to $2,000 annually, non-renewable. Please note: Individual recipients may receive up to a cumulative maximum of five academic years of scholarship assistance through the program and must submit a renewal application for award consideration each year. Any renewal is for one academic year, decided on a competitive basis, and at the discretion of the committee after a thorough review of an applicant's renewal application, academic merit, and continued commitment to return service to the in-state American Indian community.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $30,000.
