Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies from year to year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have a demonstrable record of community and school involvement that reveals exceptional leadership potential.
  2. The student must demonstrate academic achievement.
  3. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  4. Must be a current college senior.
  5. Must plan to enroll in law school.
  6. Must enroll full time.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Earl Warren Scholars receive $10,000 per year for three years as long as they’re in good academic standing and continue to meet the scholarship criteria. Scholars also have two unique opportunities: an LDF internship, externship, or guided research project and an invitation to LDF’s Civil Rights Training Institute.

Additional Information: Warren Scholarships are awarded to candidates with exceptional academic records who are dedicated to civil rights and public interest work. Applicants for Warren Scholarships must be able to demonstrate a history of outstanding community service and a well-defined interest in civil rights through their academic records and personal essays. Warren Scholarship recipients must be of excellent character and must have a verifiable record of community and school involvement that reveals a clear capacity to work well in diverse settings. Moreover, s/he must provide strong recommendations from teachers, community representatives, or employers.

Award Amount: $10,000 annually  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $30,000.

Applications and information about this award can be found online at the NAACP Legal Defense Fund Website. The application must be typed and completed electronically along with the following materials: two essays of 500 words on the topics listed on the NAACP Legal Defense Fund website, three recommendation letters, official transcripts, and ACT/SAT scores. All applications and supporting materials must be submitted by email. Late applications, as well as those submitted by fax or postal mail, cannot be considered.
