Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be currently enrolled full-time or substantial part-time (nine or more credit hours).
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale (or its equivalent).
  5. Must be currently enrolled in a foodservice-related program at an accredited culinary school, college, or university.
  6. Must be enrolled at an eligible college or university. For a listing, visit the application instructions.

Description: U.S. undergraduate students currently enrolled in a foodservice-related program at a participating college are eligible for this award. Students must enroll in nine or more credit hours and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the Al Schuman Ecolab Undergraduate Entrepreneurial Scholarship are:

Additional Information: This scholarship is targeted toward students who demonstrate an entrepreneurial spirit through a written essay. Chosen recipients must be highly ambitious, dedicated, innovative, and creative. The recipients must not only have a vision but the skills and plans to realize their vision. Applications are judged by a panel of educators, industry leaders, and culinary professionals. Scholarships are awarded on a competitive basis. The judges will score the application on the following criteria: presentation (spelling, punctuation, grammar, etc.); essay (quality of writing, word count, etc); industry-related work experience; and the strength of the letter(s) of recommendation.

Award Amount: $3,000 to $5,500 annually, non-renewable to the Gold recipient and $3,000 annually, non-renewable to the Silver recipient.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,250.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back after January 15 when applications become available. Applications are available online from the National Restaurant Association Education Foundation (NRAEF) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit two letters of recommendation. Through the online application, students will have the opportunity to email recommendation forms to people of their choice. All application material must be submitted by the deadline date.
