Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately five awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  2. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  3. Must have at least 150 hours of work experience in the restaurant industry.
  4. Must be a resident of Maryland.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  6. This award is for U.S. students.

Description: This scholarship is available for high school seniors in Maryland who have work experience in a restaurant and plans to pursue higher education in hospitality or culinary arts.

Additional Information: This scholarship is presented by the Restaurant Association of Maryland Education Foundation on behalf of Applebee’s/The Rose Group. Awards will be provided to high school seniors in Maryland who have a history of working in the restaurant industry and plans to pursue higher education in hospitality or culinary arts.

Award Amount: $1,100 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,500.

The application deadline date has not yet been finalized for this year, but is expected to remain the same as last year. The deadline date shown here is tentative based on last year's date. Please check back in December for a refreshed application deadline date. Applications are available on the Restaurant Association of Maine Education Foundation (RAMEF) website. In addition to the completed application, each college or high school applicant must submit the following materials: a photograph; a photocopy of his/her college curriculum; official sealed transcripts from his/her current high school or college; a pay stub from his/her most recent/current employer(s) providing evidence of industry-related work experience and record of additional work-related experience; a letter of recommendation from his/her supervisor; a letter of recommendation from a teacher; and a one-page response to the two essay questions on the application. An industry professional or teacher/instructor must submit the following additional materials: a photograph; a one-page response to the two essay questions on the application; a pay stub from his/her employer documenting 1,500 hours of industry experience, one letter of support and employment, and two letters of recommendation. Applications must be received by the deadline date to be considered for the following academic school year.
