Number of Awards & Eligibility: 5 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must major in culinary arts and have a career goal of becoming a chef or pastry chef. Students may also be registered ACF apprentices.
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  4. Must be a current college student at time of application. The applicant must have completed at least one grading or marking period (trimester, semester or quarter).
  5. Must have a grade point average of 2.5 or higher to apply.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The John Kacala Scholarship is for U.S. college students who are majoring in culinary arts and have a career goal of becoming a chef or pastry chef. The applicant must be enrolled full time in an accredited, postsecondary school of culinary arts, or other culinary training program acceptable to the AAC.

Additional Information: The John Kacala Scholarship is provided annually to culinary arts students who are enrolled full time at an accredited post-secondary school in the United States. Applicants must plan to pursue a career as a chef or pastry chef, or another profession within the culinary arts. Selection will be based on students' overall academic progress, financial need, extracurricular activities, participation in culinary activities, competitions and answers to essay questions.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $2,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications for the John Kacala Scholarship are available on the American Culinary Federation (ACF) website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation from industry and/or culinary professionals; a financial aid release form (this form is included with the application); responses to the two questions listed on the application; a sealed official transcript showing his/her current grade point average; and a signed photo release form (this form is included with the application). All application materials must be sent to the address provided and be postmarked by the deadline date.
