Number of Awards & Eligibility: Seven awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must have an overall grade point average of 2.75 or higher, with an average of 3.5 or higher in major-related courses (the major-related grade point average does not apply for high school seniors).
  3. Must be a resident of Texas.
  4. Must be enrolled in a restaurant/food service program and/or hospitality program.
  5. Must enroll in a minimum of twelve hours per semester, with at least three of those hours devoted to foodservice or hospitality management.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  7. Must have a minimum of one year's work experience in the foodservice industry.
  8. Must be a graduating high school senior OR a currently enrolled undergraduate college student at time of application. College seniors in their last semester of study are not eligible to apply.

Description: This scholarship is available for Texas high school seniors or currently enrolled college students who are enrolled in a restaurant/food service program and/or hospitality program. Students must have a grade point average of 2.75 or higher (3.5 or higher in the major) and one or more years of work experience in the foodservice industry.

Application requirements for the W. Price, Jr. Memorial Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Eligible students must demonstrate the ability to become an asset to the food service industry. The student's personal aims and goals should be consistent with this requirement. Please note: Students do not have to attend a postsecondary institution in Texas to use this award. Previous winners are not eligible for a second award. The scholarship committee will score the application on the following: spelling, punctuation, legibility; grade point average and ACT/SAT scores; class ranking (high school seniors only); honors/community involvement; essay questions; strength of references; and industry-related work experience. Scholarship winners are announced in April each year.

Award Amount: $2,000 annually, non-renewable. Students can reapply each year if they are maintaining satisfactory progress. Satisfactory progress is defined by the Texas Restaurant Association as the following: an overall grade point average of C or higher; a grade point average of B in the student's major; and a minimum of 12 credits taken each semester.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $14,000.

Applications are available online on the Texas Restaurant Association website. In addition to a completed application, the student must submit the following materials: an official, sealed transcript from his/her current high school or university (transcripts must cover a minimum of the previous two academic years; college freshmen must include high school transcripts); two short essays, each with 500 words or less, on the topics listed on the application; and two written recommendations, one from a current or previous employer and one from an official of the high school, university, or culinary academy he/she is currently attending. All letters of recommendation must be on official letterhead, with the recommender's signature across the envelope seal. The application must be typed or printed with black ink. The student's name, permanent address, and phone number must accompany all attachments, including any mailed separately. The application and all supporting materials must be received by the deadline date.
