Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Maine.
  3. Must major in agriculture education, horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, botany, biology, plant pathology/science, forestry, agronomy, environmental concerns, economics, environmental conservation, city planning, wildlife science, habitat or forest/systems ecology, land management, and/or other related or allied subjects.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  5. Must be a college sophomore or older to apply for this undergraduate and graduate award. Please note that only master's degree candidates are eligible to apply; Ph.D. candidates are not eligible.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: The GCFM Horticulture Scholarship is awarded to college juniors and seniors or graduate students who are legal residents of the State of Maine and not related to a GCFM Board Member. (College sophomores are eligible as they will be entering their junior year the following fall.) The Scholarship recipient is invited to attend the GCFM Annual Meeting and Awards luncheon at the State Convention held in June.

Additional Information: The purpose of the GCFM Horticulture Scholarship is to encourage and financially aid students who are majoring in horticulture, floriculture, landscape design, conservation, forestry, botany, agronomy, plant pathology, environmental control, city planning and/or any other gardening related fields. All applicants will be judged on the following: aptitude in the field of horticulture; academic record; avocational interests and vocational potential; character; and financial need. *Please note: Applicants must not be related to a GCFM board member. Winners will be notified by May and invited to attend the GCFM Awards Luncheon in June.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable. Students can reapply each year if they still meet the qualifications.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available online on the Garden Club Federation of Maine (GCFM) website or by contacting the GCFM using the contact information listed. The application form must be typed or computer generated. GCFM application, personal letter by applicant (one page only), list of extra-curricular activities, and three letters of recommendation (scholarship ability, personal, work-related). The NGC application and documentation should also be submitted with the GCFM application information. NGC application and requirements can be found on the NGC website. Attached with Application: Grade transcript, references, financial aid form (signed by Financial Aid Officer) Complete forms and information can be obtained from your Financial Aid Office. All application materials must be received at the email address listed by the deadline date.
