Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding and the number of qualified applicants. Last year, one award was offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  3. Must be a current undergraduate student.
  4. Must be pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing technology, or a closely related field of study.
  5. First preference will be given to a student who is a resident of Tennessee. Second preference will be given to an applicant who is seeking education from the University of Memphis. Third preference will be given to an applicant who is seeking education from a college of university in the state of Tennessee.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: U.S. and international students currently enrolled in an associate or bachelor's degree program in manufacturing engineering, industrial engineering, manufacturing technology, or a closely related field of study are eligible for this award. Students must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher and preference will be given to Tennessee residents, then students who attend the University of Memphis, and finally students who plan to study in Tennessee.

Application requirements for the Chapter 105 – Memphis Les Sager Memorial Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Resume
Additional Information: In the early '90's SME Chapter 105 Memphis created an endowed scholarship account with the SME Education Foundation. The chapter added additional funding in 2007 to fully endow the scholarship. The scholarship is named in memory of Les Segar a prominent member of Chapter 105. The members of Chapter 105 involved with completing this endowed scholarship include: Mike Harrison, Carl Williams, Daniel Teasler, Jim Whitehead, Tom Banning, Greg Sullivan, Lorelei Hudspeth and Garland Smith.

Award Amount: The minimum award amount is $1,000, but the student may receive a higher amount if more funding is available. This award is non-renewable. The scholarship can be used only as a credit toward tuition, fees or books.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.
