Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding and the number of qualified applicants. Last year, three awards were offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  4. Must plan on attending or be currently attending a four-year, accredited, public or private college or university within the state of Wisconsin.
  5. Must seek a bachelor's degree in manufacturing, mechanical or industrial engineering.
  6. Must be a resident of Wisconsin.
  7. Must reside in and attend an accredited institution in the United States or Canada.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for students who plan on attending or are currently attending a four-year, accredited, public or private college or university within the state of Wisconsin. The applicant must have a 3.0 grade point average or higher, and be accepted or enrolled in a manufacturing, mechanical or industrial engineering program to be eligible.

Application requirements for the Chapter 4 – Lawrence A. Wacker Memorial Award are:

  • Recommendation letter
  • Application form
  • Personal statement
  • Official Transcript
  • Resume
Additional Information: For this particular scholarship, preference for selection will be given as follows: first preference will be given to scholarship applicants who are Chapter 4 members, their spouse, and/or their children or grandchildren; second preference will be given to scholarship applicants who reside within the Wisconsin counties of Milwaukee, Ozaukee, Washington and Waukesha; and third preference will be given to scholarship applicants who reside within the state of Wisconsin. The scholarship review committee and other ad hoc review committees will evaluate applications during March of the award year. Their recommendations for the top candidates will be presented to the SME Education Foundation Board at their annual meeting in May. Each applicant will be notified of the final decision by the end of June.

Award Amount: The minimum award amount is $1,000, but the student may receive a higher amount if more funding is available. This award is non-renewable. The scholarship can be used only as a credit toward tuition, fees or books.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.
