Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be in the third year of a four-year program, or the fourth year of a five-year program.
  2. Must be enrolled full time.
  3. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  4. Must plan to work in the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) profession.
  5. Must pursue a degree in mechanical engineering.
  6. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  7. Must attend Cal State University, Virginia Tech, Pennsylvania State University, North Carolina State University, Clemson, University of Nebraska, University of Nevada, Oklahoma State University, University of Texas at Austin.

Description: This award is for an international or U.S. student who is majoring in engineering and plans to work in the heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) profession. The applicant must attend one of the eligible institutions and be in the third year of a four year program, or the fourth year of a five-year program.

Additional Information: The ASHRAE Scholarship Program is designed to encourage and assist heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration (HVAC&R) education through its granting of scholarships and fellowships. The program also serves the public interest by aiding in the education of men and women to become qualified to practice as engineers in the HVAC&R field. This scholarship was created by Southland Industries to honor David Peters, a tireless advocate of recruiting quality. The student must demonstrate a need for financial assistance, leadership ability, and character. Recipients are notified in the spring with scholarships awarded for study in the following fall/spring academic year.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications are available on the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers, Inc. (ASHRAE) website. In addition to the completed online or printed application, the student must submit an official transcript of all college grades, and a letter of recommendation and an evaluation form from three references (including a professor or faculty adviser). Transcripts and reference letters must be signed and may be submitted in individually sealed envelopes with the application. The student should submit only one application; he/she will be considered for all scholarships for which he/she is eligible. The application and all supporting materials must be submitted online or mailed to the scholarship trustees at the address provided, postmarked by the deadline date. Deadline: December 1 for Undergraduate Engrg, Engrg Technology, Regional/Chapter & University-Specific Scholarships May 1 for Freshman & High School Senior Scholarships
