Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a high school senior or first-year undergraduate student.
  3. Must be attending or applying to a U.S. or Canadian college or university.
  4. Must enroll full time.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  6. Must be pursuing a career as a plastic technician or engineer and be focusing on polymers or plastics engineering. Applicants must be pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, or manufacturing engineering and pursuing a career in plastic or rubber extrusion processing.

Description: This scholarship is open to high school seniors and first-year undergraduate students who attend a U.S. or Canadian college/university and have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher. Students must be focusing on polymers or plastics engineering and pursuing an associate's or bachelor's degree in mechanical, chemical, or manufacturing engineering and pursuing a career in plastic or rubber extrusion processing.

Additional Information: Applicants must be or become members of the SPE and be active in their student chapter if one exists. Applicants must also be in good academic standing with their schools. Financial need is considered for most scholarships. All scholarships will be paid directly to the recipients' schools. The SPE Foundation will not award scholarships to applicants who are not qualified and reserves the right to not award a scholarship in a given year if it so chooses. The recipient must submit a testimonial report to the Extrusion Division as to the benefit they were given by receiving this scholarship.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available online from the Society of Plastic Engineers (SPE) Foundation website. Please note: The student need only one submit one application to apply for all scholarships for which he/she is eligible. Each student must upload the following documents to the online application: three recommendation letters (two from a teacher or school official and one from an employer or non-relative); a high school and/or college transcript for the last two years; a listing of current and past school activities and community activities and honors; a listing of his/her employment history, starting with his/her most recent job; and a one- to two-page essay telling why he/she is applying for the scholarship, his/her qualifications, and his/her educational and career goals in the plastics industry. Please note: If the student is unable to upload his/her transcript to the online application, he/she may submit the transcript via email or mail using the addresses provided. All application materials must be submitted by the deadline date.
