Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must enroll full time at an accredited college or university.
  3. Must pursue a career in metallurgical and/or materials science engineering with an emphasis on both traditional (aluminum, magnesium, beryllium, titanium, lithium, and other reactive metals) and emerging light metals (composites, laminates, etc.).
  4. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  5. Must be a college sophomore or junior in good standing at a recognized degree-granting school at time of application.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is available for international and U.S. college sophomores or juniors who are pursing a career in metallurgical and/or materials science engineering with an emphasis on both traditional (aluminum, magnesium, beryllium, titanium, lithium, and other reactive metals) and emerging light metals (composites, laminates, etc.). Students must also have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Application requirements for the Light Metals Division (LMD) Scholarship are:

  • Application form
  • Official Transcript
  • Recommendation letter
  • Personal statement
Additional Information: The following criteria will be assessed by the scholarship selection committee to select the recipients of this scholarship: scholarship application; academic achievement; activities in and out of school, including work experience; leadership; personal profile statement; and letters of recommendation. Relatives of members of the TMS Student Affairs Committee or of the TMS Funding Committee/Division are not eligible. Please note: The applicant may apply for up to two of the TMS Scholarship Programs.

Award Amount: $2,500 plus up to $500 for travel expenses.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.
