In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must reside in North America, Europe, or Asia.
  3. Must be an undergraduate student.
  4. Must be currently enrolled full time at an accredited college or university.
  5. Must be interested in pursuing a career in the area of materials engineering in the process industries. For this purpose, "materials engineering" includes evaluation and selection of metallic, non-metallic and polymeric materials, corrosion control, optimal design, mechanical integrity, fitness-for-service, life cycle evaluation, and economic factors affecting performance of process equipment. "Chemical processing industries (CPI)" broadly include chemicals manufacturing, petroleum processing, pharmaceuticals manufacturing, paper manufacturing, and other related processing industries; or, industries such as materials producers and fabricators, which support the CPI.

Description: The MTI Bert Krisher Memorial Scholarship provides scholarships for colleg students who reside in North America, Europe, or Asia. Students must be interested in pursuing a career in the area of materials engineering in the process industries.

Additional Information: Applicants for the MTI Bert Krisher Memorial Scholarship must agree to provide Materials Technology Institute (MTI) a copy of their resume to be uploaded to the members-only section of the MTI website for viewing by MTI members and potential employment opportunities, for a period of up to one year. Candidate selection will include consideration of demonstrated interest in pursuing a career in the process industries through enrollment in relevant programs (materials engineering, materials science, corrosion engineering, etc), academic achievement, work experience, personal and professional activities, letters of recommendation, and relevant coursework (completed or scheduled). The Selection Committee will consist of up to five materials engineering professionals representing MTI member companies and one member of the NACE Foundation Board of Directors. Applicants may apply for as many scholarships as they are eligible; however, a maximum amount of $10,000 per student (excluding travel assistance) will be awarded in any given year. All applicants will be notified via email no later than mid-February about the status of their applications. Applicants who are awarded a scholarship through the NACE Foundation must submit their written acceptance of the scholarship award. All MTI Bert Krisher Memorial Scholarship recipients will be recognized at the NACE Annual Conference in March. Recipients must notify the NACE Foundation of their intent to attend the NACE Annual Conference as soon as possible after notification of award. Recipients are highly encouraged to attend the conference in person to be acknowledged. NACE Foundation scholarship recipients are eligible to apply for travel assistance to supplement their travel to the annual conference to accept their award in person.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually, non-renewable. Previous applicants and recipients are eligible to reapply each year in open competition with new applicants. All scholarship monies are paid directly to the recipient’s college or university and are to be used for educational expenses only. Expenses include, but not limited to: tuition, fees, books, supplies, and equipment required for courses at the educational institution.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Applications are available online on the NACE International Foundation website. Please note: Applications must be submitted online via the Foundation’s scholarship system. The student must upload his/her academic transcript to the online application. The student must also submit the following materials: three recommendation forms from educators or employers familiar with his/her background; a work experience form that includes previous work experience, personal activities, and leadership; and a response to the scholarship essay question, describing in 500 words or less why he/she should be the recipient of this scholarship. Forms for all required materials are available on the NACE International Foundation website. Applications must be submitted by the deadline date. Application materials submitted after the deadline will not be considered. The NACE Foundation reserves the right to extend any and all scholarship deadlines at their discretion.
