Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually. Last year, 39 awards were given.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must plan to major in or be majoring in education.
  3. Currently enrolled undergraduate students must be members of Phi Delta Kappa International.
  4. Must be a graduating high school senior or currently enrolled college student to apply for this undergraduate award.

Description: This scholarship is available for international and U.S. high school seniors and current undergraduate students who plan to major in or are majoring in education. Current college students must be members of Phi Delta Kappa International.

Additional Information: The criteria used to select PDK's scholarship recipients are academic standing, the written essay, letters of recommendation, and leadership activities. Please note: Certain endowed scholarships offered through this program have special eligibility criteria in addition to the standard eligibility criteria. These scholarships and their criteria are listed on the online application form; students should review the criteria carefully to see which additional awards they may be eligible for.

Award Amount: The award amount varies for each award, but ranges from $500 to $1,500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available on the Phi Delta Kappa (PDK) International website. In addition to the completed application, the applicant must submit: an essay of 500 words or less in response to the question posed on page three of the application, a copy of his/her academic transcript; and two letters of reference that address his/her interest in teaching and qualities that will make him/her a successful educator. One letter must be from a person familiar with his/her academic abilities and school activities. If the student is not a Kappan Kid or member of a PDK-sponsored Future Educators of America chapter, the second letter must be from a PDK member in good standing (the member's ID number will be required). These materials should be sent to the address provided. The complete application package must be submitted through the online application portal no later than the deadline date.
