Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding and the number of qualified applicants.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a graduating high school senior to apply for this undergraduate award.
  4. Must demonstrate an interest in and marked aptitude for writing or music through academic or personal activities and plan to major in one of these subjects.
  5. Must plan to enroll as a full-time student (with a minimum of 12 units) at an accredited college or university.
  6. Must be graduating from schools in the Laguna Beach Unified or Santa Ana Unified School District in California.

Description: High school seniors graduating from schools in the Laguna Beach Unified or Santa Ana Unified School District who plan to major in writing or music are eligible for this award. Students must enroll full time and demonstrate financial need.

Additional Information: An applicant must demonstrate an interest in and marked aptitude for writing or music through academic or personal activities and financial need through an evaluation of family's income and expenses. Recipients will be notified in the summer.

Award Amount: Awards will generally range from $1,000 to $4,000 annually, depending on the level of financial need, cost of tuition, available funding and any other special circumstances. Award amount will be determined at the discretion of the scholarship review committee. Awards may be renewable and eligibility will be based on the scholarship criteria.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available from the Orange County Community Foundation website and must be completed online. Each applicant must create an account using his/her username, chosen password, name and email address. The applicant will be matched with corresponding awards based on his/her responses within the application. In addition to the completed application, the student must upload his/her most recent official transcript; his/her expected family contribution (obtained from the Student Aid Report received after filing the FAFSA); information regarding his/her or his/her parents' recent income tax return; an essay of no more than 600 words addressing the topic listed; an optional special circumstances essay of no more than 600 words; and contact information for two references. Upon submission of the student's application, each reference will receive an email with instructions on how to submit their letters of recommendation. Students must file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline date. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. Applications must be submitted by 5 p.m. on the deadline date.
