The Graphic Communications Scholarship, Award and Career Advancement Foundation

Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards offered varies annually and is dependent on funding. Last year, 25 students were awarded a combined total of $29,000.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must have taken graphic communications courses in the past and plan to pursue an education in graphic communications.
  4. Must reside in one of the following areas: New York State - the five boroughs of New York City, the counties of Nassau, Suffolk, Westchester and Rockland; OR New Jersey - Bergen and Union counties.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for graduating high school seniors, undergraduate and graduate students interested in pursuing an education in graphic communications. Students must reside in certain areas of New York and New Jersey.

Application requirements for the Graphic Communications Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Note: There are different applications depending on applicant's status: high school senior, current undergraduate student, graduate student and previous recipient.

Award Amount: Award amounts vary, but the highest amount awarded has been $5,000 annually. Awards are renewable for up to three additional years as long as the recipient fulfills the following criteria: maintains a grade point average of 3.25 or higher and continues enrollment in a college-level graphic communications program. Students must reapply annually and include three new examples of work and two letters of recommendation.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,160.

Applications are available online from The Graphic Communications Scholarship, Award and Career Advancement Foundation website. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit: a copy of his/her official notification of acceptance into a two- or four-year college; a portfolio (if appropriate) in his/her area of expertise; an official copy of his/her high school transcripts showing grade point averages; an official copy of his/her SAT/ACT scores; three letters of support and recommendation (one from a subject-related instructor, and the others from a principal, guidance counselor, teacher or community leader); and a typed, one-page, double-spaced statement (300 to 500 words) discussing his/her particular interest in graphic communications and why he/she should be considered for a scholarship. The portfolio must include five or more pieces. Slides or prints of artwork should be provided. All artwork and slides become the property of the foundation and will not be returned. The student should not include original documents, acceptance letters or anything that he/she will need returned. Copies are acceptable. All applications and supporting materials must be submitted electronically, via email, no later than the deadline date.
