Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies annually based on the number of qualified applicants. Approximately 650 awards disbursed each year.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of Kentucky.
  3. Must be enrolled or plan to enroll full time (unless enrolled for the final term of a teacher certification program and less than full-time enrollment is required to complete the program).
  4. Must plan to pursue initial teacher certification in Kentucky.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  6. Must plan to attend an eligible public or private Kentucky institution. A list of eligible schools is available online at the KHEAA website.
  7. Must be a high school senior or older. Please note: Freshmen and sophomores will receive scholarships only if funds remain after juniors, seniors, and graduate students receive awards.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is available for Kentucky undergraduate and graduate students who are pursuing an initital teacher certification. Priority is given to Juniors, seniors, and graduate level students.

Application requirements for the KHEAA Teacher Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Applicants must demonstrate financial need as determined by the FAFSA. FAFSA results are automatically released to KHEAA. The student's college must verify that he/she is enrolled in a major that will lead to initial teacher certification or his/her application will not be considered. Recipients cannot be enrolled in a program that leads to a certificate, diploma, or degree in theology, divinity, or religious education. Recipients must not be defaulted on a financial obligation to KHEAA. If a recipient does not complete his or her institution's education program or does not render qualified teaching service at a school certified by the Kentucky Department of Education, the scholarship becomes a loan and the recipient is required to repay the amount disbursed with 6% interest from the date of disbursement.

Award Amount: Up to $2,500 per semester  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available from the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authorigy (KHEAA) website. To apply, students must first register for a 'Zip Access' on the Kentucky Higher Education Assistance Authority (KHEAA) homepage. Registered students must then complete the 'Teacher Scholarship' application. Students must also file the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by the deadline to apply. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. For scholarship consideration, the scholarship application and the FAFSA results must be received by KHEAA by the deadline date.
