Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must reside in Monterey, San Benito or Santa Cruz Counties of California.
  2. Must be a graduating high school senior or undergraduate student.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be majoring in firefighting, forestry, nursing, or emergency medicine.

Description: The James Bliss and Annette Sward Forestry and Nursing Scholarship is available for high school seniors and undergraduates in Monterey, San Benito or Santa Cruz counties of CA. Applicants must be majoring in or planning to major in fire science, forestry, nursing, and/or paramedic/EMT training.

Additional Information: The James Bliss and Annette Sward Forestry and Nursing Scholarship is provided in honor of James Bliss, who worked for nearly four decades in firefighting and fire prevention management. Each year, the award is provided to a local area student who is pursuing a career in lifesaving fields such as firefighting, forestry, nursing, or emergency medicine. The Community Foundation for Monterey County is home to more than 45 named scholarship funds, all designed to assist students in the local community who are pursuing higher education. Each year, more than 125 individual scholarships are awarded through these funds to a variety of students of diverse backgrounds, interests, and career goals.

Award Amount: Scholarships are provided in the amount of $2,000. Awards are not renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.
