Number of Awards & Eligibility: Varies.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a Washington state resident as defined in statute. The relevant statute can be found online at apps.leg.wa.gov/RCW/default.aspx?cite=28B.15.012.
  2. Must be pursuing an eligible high-demand major in science, technology, engineering, mathematics (STEM), or health care. A list of eligible majors is available online at www.waopportunityscholarship.org/document.doc?id=675.
  3. Must have a cumulative grade point average through fall semester or quarter 2017 of 2.75 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  4. Must have a family income (adjusted gross income plus all untaxed income) less than the amount listed by family size on the chart located on the scholarship website at www.waopportunityscholarship.org/file/application-documents/Family-Income.pdf. Please note: Unless the student qualified to submit the FAFSA as an independent student, the family income amounts are those reported by the student's parent(s) on his/her FAFSA.
  5. Must plan to attend an eligible Washington state college or university. A list of eligible institutions is available online at the provider website.
  6. Must be a high school senior, or a college freshman or sophomore at the time of application. Please note: College students who will have earned 90 or more quarter credits or 60 or more semester credits at the start of fall term 2016 are not eligible. Running Start, AP, IB, and transfer credits that the student's college has accepted count toward that total.
  7. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  8. This award is for U.S. students.
  9. Must have earned a high school diploma or GED from a Washington state high school or institution by June 2018.

Description: Washington State Opportunity Baccalaureate Scholarship helps low- and middle-income Washington students earn degrees, certificates or apprenticeships in high-demand trade, health care or STEM fields and launch careers in Washington state with up to $22,500 in aid.

Additional Information: The Baccalaureate Scholarship provides up to $22,500 in financial aid support and access to career-launching support services for students pursuing high-demand STEM and health care majors. This scholarship can be used to cover tuition, fees and other indirect costs of attendance such as housing, transportation, food and more. Funding can be used for any eligible STEM or health care degree at any eligible public or private college or university in Washington state.
