Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually. One college student award and one high school student award will be offered.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must attend or have graduated from a high school located in San Mateo County or northern Santa Clara County (Daly City through Mountain View).
  3. Must enroll full time at an accredited two- or four-year college or university.
  4. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal resident.
  5. Must have an interest in and pursue a career in the field of creative writing.
  6. Must be a resident of California.
  7. Must be a graduating high school senior or older to apply for this undergraduate award.

Description: This award is available for U.S. undergraduate students who have an interest in and pursue a career in the field of creative writing. Students must attend or have graduated from a high school located in San Mateo County or northern Santa Clara County (Daly City through Mountain View) and must be a resident of California.

Application requirements for the Bobette Bibo Gugliotta Memorial Scholarship for Creative Writing are:

Additional Information: This fund was established in honor of Bobette Bibo Gugliotta, author of several books, and creator of a story (when she was 11 years old), about a mouse who later became Mickey. The Bobette Bibo Gugliotta Memorial Scholarship for Creative Writing is designated for the educational benefit of students majoring in the field of creative writing and who have demonstrated creative writing abilities. Please note: Need is not a primary consideration of the Bobette Bibo Gugliotta Memorial Scholarship Fund, but may be a factor in final selection.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually for an undergraduate or graduate student and $1,000 annually for a graduating high school senior. Both awards are non-renewable. Recipients are not eligible to reapply.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available on the Silicon Valley Community Foundation website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation (the letters must be from the people listed on the application); an official transcript of grades; a personal statement addressing the topics listed on the application; evidence of financial need as described on the application; and proof of U.S. citizenship (photocopy of birth certificate, passport or naturalization papers). The complete application packet must be completed online by the deadline date.
