Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be enrolled in a graduate program at the time of application.
  2. Must be majoring in public relations or a related field.
  3. This award is for U.S. students.
  4. Must be a member of the Public Relations Student Society of America.
  5. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.
  6. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.

Additional Information: The founding donors of the Chester Burger Award fund emphasized that Burger has long been considered as one of the pre-eminent leaders in the public relations profession, helping to shape the discipline of public relations counseling at major global corporations, and is revered for his personal dedication to generations of colleagues. He passed away on March 22, 2011, at the age of 90. This scholarship is provided annually to a graduate student in public relations to both honor the memory of Chester, as well as to recognize and encourage those students who share his vision.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $1,000.

Applications are available online from the Public Relations Student Society of America (PRSSA) website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must submit the following materials: a resume including any academic honors, special projects, activities, work experience, or training that he/she would like to be taken into consideration; an official transcript of all college studies, including grades of the preceding semester; an essay of no more than 1,000 words stating his/her career goals; two strong writing samples; and two letters of academic and/or professional recommendation. All applications and supporting materials must be submitted online by the deadline date.
