Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a licensed radio amateur with a general class or higher license.
  2. Must major in electronics, communications, or related fields.
  3. Must attend college in one of the New England states or New York.
  4. Must be a resident of one of the New England states (ME, NH, VT, MA, CT, RI) or New York.
  5. Must be pursuing a baccalaureate or higher course of study.
  6. This award is for international and U.S. students.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This scholarship is offered to a licensed radio amateur with a general class or higher license who is majoring in electronics, communications, or a related field. The applicant must reside and attend school in New York or New England.

Additional Information: Provided in memory of Dr. James L. Lawson, this scholarship will be provided to an amateur radio enthusiast who has an active general class license or higher. Applicants must be pursuing a degree at the bachelor's or graduate level of study. Recipients are typically notified no later than mid-May by USPS mail and email.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available on the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) Foundation website. Applications must be completed online. Students need only submit one application for all scholarships for which they are eligible. The student must provide contact information for one educational reference, one character reference, and one social reference on the online application. The student must also submit a copy of his/her academic transcript from his/her most recently completed school year to the email address provided. The transcript must be scanned and submitted as a PDF.
