Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be majoring in law.
  3. Must currently attend the Institute for the American Constitutional Heritage (IACH) at the University of Oklahoma, or the School of Law at Oklahoma City University.
  4. Must be currently enrolled in a law degree program.

Description: The Durrell Public Law Research Award is available for law students in Oklahoma who submit a research paper or research proposal on the topic of public and constitutional law.

Additional Information: Founded in 1969, the Oklahoma City Community Foundation provides and administers more than 200 scholarships designed to assist local area students with the high and rising costs of a college education. Scholarships will be awarded based on a combination of merit, financial need, and other criteria as it applies to the specific award. The Durrell Public Law Research Award is provided annually to law students in Oklahoma with an emphasis on constitutional law, public financing, and public law. The scholarship is provided in hopes of advancing the values of justice, fairness, professional commitment to public service and civic participation.

Award Amount: The award amount varies annually. In the past, awards have been for $2,000 or more. All funds will be paid directly to the recipient's school to be applied toward tuition, fees, and other academic expenses.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,000.

Applications are available online on the Oklahoma City Community Foundation (OCCF) website. Students must create an account using their email address on the OCCF website to access the online application. All students must then login and complete the General Application. The student should have access to the following information for completion of the General Application: his/her FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) SAR (Student Aid Report) or the first two pages of his/her household's most recent IRS 1040 tax form; contact information for the individual who can submit an official transcript on his/her behalf; a list of extracurricular activities, community service, honors, awards, leadership, and employment history (including dates and descriptions); and contact information for the person(s) who will write letters of recommendation for him/her (one required for the General Application). After completion of the General Application, the student may then apply for all scholarships for which he/she is eligible. All application materials must be submitted by the deadline date.
