Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers.
  4. Must be a graduate student.
  5. Must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited engineering program.

Description: This award is for U.S. graduate students who are enrolled in an ABET-accredited engineering program. Students must be members of the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE).

Application requirements for the George B. Hightower, P.E. Fellowship are:

  • Essay
  • Recommendation letters (2)
  • Official Transcript
  • Resume
Additional Information: The following criteria will be used as the basis for selecting a scholarship winner: grade point average, teacher recommendations, activities, work experience, honors/scholarships/awards, and the essay. All applicants will be notified of the final selection by May 1 of each year.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable. Please note: The winner will forfeit receipt of the fellowship award if the recipient does not complete the engineering program in two consecutive years. Special circumstances may be taken into consideration.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $3,000.

Applications are available on the National Society of Professional Engineers (NSPE) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following materials: two letters of recommendation from faculty members; a letter of recommendation from an employer (optional); an essay (500 words or less) on the topic listed on the application; a resume listing internship and/or co-op experiences and/or engineering-related jobs; a listing of his/her honors/scholarships/awards; and a listing of extracurricular activities. The materials must be assembled in the order described on the application and must be mailed to the address provided. Applications must be received by the deadline date.
