Number of Awards & Eligibility: Two awards offered annually. There will be one award given for the narrative map category and one given for the interactive map category.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be a resident of North America.
  3. Must have completed or be currently enrolled in a cartography course. GIS courses where two weeks or more of cartography are taught may be used with approval of the course professor, or the approval of the current cartography instructor in the applicant's department.
  4. Must be currently enrolled in a undergraduate, graduate or certificate program by the deadline date.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for residents of North America who have completed or are currently enrolled in a cartography course. Applicants must be current undergraduate or graduate students.

Additional Information: Entries must have been created during the current academic year. There is no entry fee. The North American Cartographic Information Society (NACIS) recognizes the importance of dynamic mapping in cartography. They are sponsoring the Annual Student Dynamic Map Competition to promote cartographic excellence and innovation in this versatile medium. Each map will be judged by a panel of three professional cartographers. The winners will be announced (and demonstrated) during this year's NACIS annual meeting in Norfolk. The winners will also be announced in the following issue of Cartographic Perspectives. Students may enter as many times as they wish, but may only win one prize. Previous first-prize winners in either of the categories from this contest may not enter.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Entry forms are available from the North American Cartographic Information Society (NACIS) website. There is no need to specify which category the applicant enters the map into, this will be decided by the panel of judges. Students may re-enter a map from a previous years competition, provided the map has been improved in a significant way. Entries must be submitted by midnight CST on the deadline date.
