Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must demonstrate a commitment to general aviation.
  4. Must be 18 years of age or older at time of application.
  5. Must be a high school graduate or older to apply for this undergraduate and/or graduate award.

Description: Undergraduate or graduate students who are 18 years of age or older and are committed to pursuing a career in aviation are eligible for this award. Each applicant must be nominated and endorsed by a representative of a regular or associate member company of the National Air Transportation Association (NATA).

Additional Information: NATA is dedicated to promoting safety, professionalism, education and training as a means for individuals to advance their careers. The annual NATA Business Scholarship Award is to be used for continuing education for employees of NATA member companies. All applicable studies should be directly related to furthering the skills applicable to working at an FBO, charter company maintenance facility or flight school. Applicable training includes any aviation maintenance program under the aegis of Part 147 or 65; any pilot certificate or rating under Part 61 or 141; and any aviation-related two-year, four-year or graduate degree program at an accredited college or university. In addition, the NATA Strategic Management for Aviation Service Firms, held yearly at the Transportation Center/Northwestern University, qualifies for applicable training. The applicant should also possess a Student Pilot certificate (or higher), with a third-class medical certificate, if applying for pilot certificates or ratings.

Award Amount: $2,500 annually, non-renewable. Please note all checks will be made payable to the applicable training institute and the scholarship recipient.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $2,500.

Applications are available online from the National Air Transportation Association (NATA) website. In addition to the completed application, each student must submit a descriptive, 500-word essay or resume that addresses the topics listed on the application and two or more letters of recommendation by individuals from applicant's company, the aviation community, school, clergy or others. Optionally applicants can include transcripts from high schools, colleges or other training institutions that the student is attending or has attended. Each applicant must be nominated and endorsed by a representative of a regular or associate member company of the NATA. Those in flight training programs should also provide a progress report from the institution or operator of the flight training program, if applicable. All applications must be submitted online and received no later than the final Friday in December.
