Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 150 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a member of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
  3. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  4. Must be enrolled in one of the following programs with plans to work in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.): a M.A.C.E. (Master of Arts, Christian Education) program; or a M.Div. (Master of Divinity) program. M.Div. students in their first or second years must be enrolled as inquirers or candidates by Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) presbyteries before the application deadline to be considered for an award; students in their third year must be candidates. M.A.C.E. students are not required to be inquirer/candidate, but must be recommended by the Committee on Preparation for Ministry.
  5. Must be a full-time student.
  6. Must attend a theological seminary related to or in covenant with Presbyterian Churches (U.S.A.). The following schools are eligible: Austin Presbyterian Theological Seminary, Columbia Theological Seminary, University of Dubuque Theological Seminary, Johnson C. Smith Theological Seminary, Louisville Presbyterian Theological Seminary, McCormick Theological Seminary, Pittsburgh Theological Seminary, Princeton Theological Seminary, San Francisco Theological Seminary, Union Theological Seminary and Presbyterian School of Christian Education, Auburn Theological Seminary, or Evangelical Seminary of Puerto Rico.
  7. Must be working on obtaining his/her first graduate degree. Students who already have one of the eligible degrees and are working on another are not eligible for this scholarship.

Description: This scholarship is available for U.S. graduate students who are in their first year of study, are members of the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.), and attend a school that is related to or in covenant with the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.). Students must be enrolled in one of the following programs with plans to work in the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.): a MACE (Master of Arts, Christian Education) program; or a M.Div. (Master of Divinity) program.

Additional Information: The Presbyterian Study Grant is part of the Theological Grant and Loan Program. This program is for theological students preparing to serve in a Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) congregation. Students must demonstrate financial need. Only students eligible for award will be submitted to the Presbyterian Study Grant reading committee on August 2 and 3. The PSG reading committee will consider the merits of eligible students and select students for award.

Award Amount: $1,000 to $4,000 annually, renewable for up to three years. In order to renew the award, the student must submit a complete application package each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $10,000.

Applications are available on the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) (PC-USA) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following: a completed 'Biographical Questionnaire' (part of the application); a resume or curriculum vitae of two pages or less that includes academic background, most recent employment, service, and accomplishments/awards; a double-spaced essay of 1,000 words on the topic listed on the application; and an endorsement/validation (found within the application) from his/her faculty adviser or administrator. The application and all supporting materials must be emailed by the deadline date. The curriculum vitae/resume and/or essay may be submitted by email (finaid@pcusa.org). The biographical questionnaire (application) must be sent via mail. Please note: To be eligible, the student must also file his/her FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) by June 1. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. The PC-USA will send a 'Financial Information Form' to the student's financial aid office for completion after the student has submitted his/her application. The student's FAFSA must be on file in order for this form to be completed.
