Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to three awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for international and U.S. students.
  2. Must be enrolled in a mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, or related baccalaureate or graduate program. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate an interest in advancing the field of power generation.
  3. Must be a sophomore, junior, senior, or graduate student in the upcoming academic year.
  4. Must be enrolled full time.

Description: International and U.S. students who will be sophomores, juniors, seniors, or graduate students in the upcoming academic year and are enrolled in a mechanical engineering or related program are eligible for this award. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate an interest in advancing the field of power generation.

Additional Information: Mary Evans Stowell Thompson, a founding member of the ASME Foundation's Archimedes Club, bequeathed a scholarship fund in memory of her late husband, who played a vital and instrumental role in the conception and development of the United Engineering Center in New York City, and in recognition of his lifelong interest and services in many capacities to ASME. Applicants must be enrolled in an ABET-accredited school for the upcoming academic year. Information regarding accreditation status is available online at main.abet.org/aps/Accreditedprogramsearch.aspx. Applicants also must have established a grade point average in their degree programs to qualify. If applicants have not established a grade point average at the college level, they are not eligible to apply. The award recipient will be selected on the basis of scholastic ability and potential contribution to the mechanical engineering profession. All applicants will be notified of the scholarship results between June 15 and July 1. Scholarship money will be sent to scholarship winners by the end of August.

Award Amount: $4,500 annually, non-renewable. Scholarship awardees from past years will not be selected to receive additional scholarships. Students must apply again each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $13,500.
