Number of Awards & Eligibility: The number of awards varies from year to year and is dependent on funding.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  2. Must maintain a permanent residence in one of the following counties in central Pennsylvania: Adams, Cumberland, Dauphin, Franklin, Fulton, Juniata, Lancaster, Lebanon, Montour, Northumberland, Perry, Snyder or York.
  3. Must be majoring in music, with an interest in classical music.
  4. This award is for U.S. students.
  5. Must currently attend or have been accepted and plan to attend an accredited post-secondary institution.
  6. Must demonstrate financial need.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: This award is for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students who are majoring in music. Students must demonstrate financial need and maintain a permanent residence in one of the eligible central Pennsylvania counties.

Application requirements for the Drane and Steele Music Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Income of the Lou Drane Fund and the Joseph L. and Vivian E. Steele Fund, both of The Foundation for Enhancing Communities, is used annually to grant scholarships to needy students of classical music in the fields of composition, teaching and performance.

Award Amount: Up to $5,000 annually. The award is non-renewable, but students are eligible to reapply each year.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $5,000.

Applications can be found online on the Foundation for Enhancing Communities (TFEC) website. In addition to the completed application form, applicants must submit a copy of the FAFSA Student Aid Report, and a CD of either an original composition or a performance, not to exceed 20 minutes. Composition CDs should also include the written music score. Applications must be completed online, and all supplemental materials must be received at the provided address no later than the deadline date.
