Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must attend Tennessee High School in Bristol, TN; Virginia High School or John S. Battle High School, both in Bristol, VA; Sullivan Central High School in Blountville, TN; or Bland High School in Bland, VA.
  2. Must plan to major in music, art, agriculture, math, or science.
  3. Must enroll at Emory & Henry College, King College, East Tennessee State University or the University of Tennessee College of Agriculture in Knoxville.
  4. Must plan to enroll full time.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or legal permanent resident.
  6. This award is for U.S. students.
  7. Must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher.

Description: This scholarship is available for high school seniors at Tennessee High School in Bristol, TN; Virginia High School and John S. Battle High School, both in Bristol, VA; Sullivan Central High School in Blountville, TN; or Bland High School in Bland, VA. Applicants must have a grade point average of 3.0 or higher, and must plan to major in music, art, agriculture, math, or science at one of the following institutions: Emory & Henry College, King College, East Tennessee State University or the University of Tennessee College of Agriculture in Knoxville.

Additional Information: This scholarship fund was established in 2007 by Edith Updyke Harmon in memory of her husband, Jack. Awards will be provided annually to graduating high school seniors residing in the Bristol, Bland, and Blountville areas along the Eastern Tennessee border with Virginia. Preference will be given to applicants planning to attend school in Tennessee and work in the East Tennessee area following graduation. Factors to be considered by the selection committee will be: financial need; general aptitude for advanced educational work; evidence of participation in and service to the community; and the maturity and professionalism of the student, in that order of importance. The selection committee reserves the right to conduct brief interviews with finalists.

Award Amount: $5,000 annually for four years  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $20,000.
