  4. Must be a high school senior at the time of application.
  5. This award is for U.S. students.

Description: This scholarship is available for high school seniors in Baltimore City and Baltimore County who have unmet financial need and a grade point average of 2.5 or higher.

Additional Information: This scholarship is provided each year to honor the life and spirit of Khia "DJ K-Swift" Edgerton. She was a well-known Baltimore DJ who successfully navigated her way into a male-dominated and fast-paced industry. At the age of 18, Khia began interning at 92Q Jams, where she was introduced as DJ K-Swift. Khia worked hard and she eventually became a full-time employee and head DJ of the night show at 92Q. Khia believed in and demonstrated the value of hard work as well as the rewards of passion and commitment to the pursuit of one's dream. In July 2008, Khia met a tragic and untimely end, but her spirit lives on through the individuals who loved her and her work in the local Baltimore music industry. Selection for this award will be based on academic performance, financial need, recommendations, and submitted essays.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Information is available online at the CollegeBound Foundation website. Applications are only available online through the online portal. In addition to completing the CollegeBound Foundation Competitive Scholarship Application, the applicant must also submit the following: two letters of recommendation; a copy of his/her college acceptance letter(s); a typed essay addressing the topic listed on the application (if applicable); community service verification(s) (if applicable); and a copy of his/her most recent high school transcript, including the first semester of the senior year. When applying for the Khia DJ K-Swift Edgerton Memorial Scholarship or other need-based scholarships available through the CollegeBound Foundation, the applicant must include the following: a copy of his/her Student Aid Report (SAR) or a copy of his/her parents' most recent tax return; a financial aid award letter from the college he/she will attend (the applicant should send a copy of the financial aid award letter as soon as it is received); and a Maryland Higher Education Commission Financial Aid Award Letter (if applicable). The SAR is obtained by filing the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov, at high school guidance offices, and at college financial aid offices. All application materials must be received online no later than the deadline date.
