Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must plan to enroll on a full-time basis.
  3. Must seek an undergraduate degree in the social sciences, including (but not limited to) anthropology, archaeology, criminology, economics, geography, history, international relations, philosophy, political science, psychology, social work, sociology, or urban studies.
  4. Must be a resident of Vermont.
  5. Must be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen.
  6. Must be a high school senior who will earn a diploma or GED by the start of the upcoming school year.
  7. Must demonstrate academic achievement.

Description: This scholarship is available for Vermont high school seniors who are seeking a degree in the social sciences. Students must demonstrate academic achievement and financial need.

Additional Information: This scholarship was created to promote dependability, community service, leadership, religious awareness, and patriotism among high school seniors. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate and promote these qualities. Applicants must plan to attend an accredited postsecondary school approved for federal Title IV funding, and must demonstrate financial need. Selection is based on application documents, academic achievement, and financial need. There are approximately 160 applicants for this award each year.

Award Amount: $500 annually, non-renewable.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $500.

Applications are available from the Vermont Student Assistance Corporation (VSAC) website. Applications may be completed either online or in paper form beginning on November 1. Please note: The student is only required to submit one application for all scholarships for which he/she wishes to apply. In addition, if a particular document is required for more than one scholarship, the student need only submit one copy of that document. To apply, the student must complete and submit the VSAC Unified Scholarship Application and submit the following materials: a letter of recommendation; an essay; and official transcripts. NOTE: Required additional materials MUST conform to the detailed instructions in the VSAC Scholarships Booklet. The student is highly encouraged to review the booklet thoroughly when assembling materials. Electronic applications and any digital versions of supplemental materials must be submitted by midnight on the deadline date. Paper applications or any supplemental materials in paper form must be postmarked by the deadline date.
