Number of Awards & Eligibility: Approximately 12 awards offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen.
  3. Must be a full-time student at an accredited college or university.
  4. Must be enrolled in a program of study that has application to the field of naval engineering. For a complete list of eligible programs, please refer to the provider's website.
  5. Must be a college junior to apply for this award for use during the last year of his/her undergraduate program.

Description: This award is available for U.S. college juniors who are enrolled in a program leading to a career in naval engineering.

Additional Information: The applicant should express a genuine interest in a career in naval engineering, such as holding a student membership in a professional engineering organization, participating in extracurricular engineering activities, etc. Selection criteria will be based on the candidate's academic record; work history; professional promise and interest in naval engineering; extracurricular activities; and recommendations of college faculty, employers, and other character references. Financial need may also be considered.

Award Amount: $3,000 annually, non-renewable. As a further means of encouraging interest in a career in naval engineering, all ASNE scholars and alternates are awarded one-year honorary student memberships. The scholarship award will be in the form of a check for the first academic period, payable jointly to the awardee and the college or university he/she will attend.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $48,000.

The deadline for 2019 has passed, but the deadline for 2020 is expected to be the same as last year. Please check back in November for updated information about next year's award. Applications are available online on the American Society of Naval Engineers (ASNE) website. In addition to a completed application, the applicant must also submit a transcript of grades, and three letters of reference. The transcript and letters may be attached to the application or sent separately. All application materials must be typed. Only the completed application, transcripts, and three letters of reference will be evaluated. No other information is required or desired. Application responses should be confined to the space provided. Applications and supporting documents must be received by the deadline date.
