Additional Information: This is a scholarship for students who participated in a major leadership role on a project with positive environmental and social impact. Past winning projects have ranged from greening college campuses, to local wildlife habitat restoration, to passing legislation to reduce air pollution. The Brower Youth Awards are looking to recognize the leader of a group or an effort. While BYA will consider applicants who are implementing individual efforts, it is its tendency to focus on leaders of groups and efforts. In addition to the cash prize, recipients will receive a professionally produced short film about their work from an Emmy award winning film crew, and flight and lodging accommodations for a week long trip to the San Francisco Bay Area. During their stay in California, the recipients will participate in a camping trip, leadership activities, speaking and media engagements, and trainings and environmental conferences giving them a chance to meet with mentors and peers. The week of activities culminates in the awards ceremony in front of more than 900 guests in San Francisco in October.
