Number of Awards & Eligibility: Up to 18 academic scholarships are awarded annually in two application cycles.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. This award is for U.S. students.
  2. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  3. Must be enrolled, or accepted for enrollment, for the upcoming fall semester at time of application.
  4. Must pursue a mortuary science program.
  5. Must be enrolled as a full- or part-time student during the upcoming fall semester to receive the scholarship.
  6. Must be a resident of Montana.
  7. Must attend a school accredited by the American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE). A list of ABFSE-accredited schools is available online at www.abfse.org/html/dir-listing.html.

In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:

Description: Montana residents who are enrolled in, or accepted into, a mortuary science program at an ABFSE-accredited school for the upcoming fall semester are eligible for this award. Students may enroll part time or full time.

Application requirements for the Dennis Schoepp Memorial Scholarship are:

Additional Information: The Schoepp Memorial Scholarship, established in 2010 by the Foundation's Board of Trustees, honors one of Montana's finest directors. Scholarships will be awarded without regard to race, religious beliefs, age, national origin, or disability. Students may receive only one scholarship from the FSF.

Award Amount: Scholarships range from $2,500-$5,000 and are open to full-time or part-time students in good standing who are enrolled in ABFSE- or Canadian-accredited institutions/programs. Candidates must be attending classes and actively pursuing a degree in funeral service at the time of application.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $90,000.

Applications are available on the Funeral Service Foundation (FSF) website. In addition to the completed application, the applicant must submit: a copy of his/her acceptance letter to an American Board of Funeral Service Education (ABFSE)-approved school or an official statement verifying his/her enrollment for the upcoming fall semester; and an original essay of 500 to 1,000 words explaining why he/she chose to enter the funeral service profession and describing one of his/her most meaningful achievements and how it relates to a career in funeral service. Please note: If the student is applying for more than one FSF scholarship, he/she must submit a separate application and essay for each scholarship. (Each scholarship has a unique essay topic.) Only one acceptance letter/enrollment verification is required. Applications must be submitted online by the deadline date.
