Number of Awards & Eligibility: At least one scholarship is awarded annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must be a full-time student.
  2. Must be admitted to a doctoral or post-doctoral program.
  3. Must have a clearly demonstrated interest in waste management research.
  4. This award is for international and U.S. students.

Description: This scholarship is available for international and U.S. doctoral and post-doctoral students who have a clearly demonstrated interest in environmental and waste management research.

Application requirements for the EREF Doctoral Scholarship are:

Additional Information: Awards are based on the applicant's academic or professional performance; the relevance of his/her work to the advancement of waste management science; and his/her potential for success. Full scholarships cannot be awarded to students who will be receiving full-tuition scholarships from other sources (excluding direct university assistance such as tuition remission and/or income received from assistantships), although such students may still be considered for partial awards.

Award Amount: A maximum of $14,400 per year, paid monthly. Scholarships are renewable each year to a maximum of three years from the initial award date.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $48,000.

Applications are available on the Environmental Research and Education Foundation (EREF) website. In addition to the completed application, the student must submit the following materials: official transcripts from each college or university attended; a copy of admission test scores, i.e. GRE and/or GMAT (the student should allow three to four weeks for test scores to arrive if he/she needs to request them); three letters of recommendation commenting on the student's academic/career performance and his/her potential for future success (or pages nine and ten of the application) ; and two essays (the first of less than 500 words and the second of less than 750 words) on the topics listed on the application. Candidates submitting material in any language other than English must provide an English translation. The application must be completed online, and supporting documents must be submitted online no later than the deadline date.
