Number of Awards & Eligibility: One award offered annually.
In order to qualify, students must meet the following criteria:
  1. Must reside in the greater St. Louis metro area.
  2. This award is for U.S. and international students.
  3. Must be a graduating high school senior at the time of application.
  4. Must be an immigrant or have one or more parents who are immigrants.
  5. Must be majoring in a STEM field.

Description: The Larry Carp Memorial Scholarship is available for graduating high school seniors in St. Louis who are immigrants or the children of immigrants. Applicants must plan to major in a STEM field and must show evidence of community involvement and service.

Additional Information: The Larry Carp Memorial Scholarship was established by Lois and Ken Marshall, Dr. Carp's sister and brother in law, to honor his memory and further advocate for the rights of immigrants. Larry Carp firmly believed that freedom of movement was essential for all people to achieve their greatest potential, and as such, this award seeks to assist those students in the St. Louis area who are immigrants or the children of immigrants. Award selection will be based on a combination of factors including the student's extracurricular activities and community involvement, essay submissions, reference letters, and academic records. Scholarship Central is made possible by a joint commitment between St. Louis Graduates and the St. Louis Community Foundation, as well as a variety of private and public sponsors. All funds provided by St. Louis Community Foundation do not discriminate on the basis of race, religion, creed, national origin, gender, age, color, sexual orientation, veteran status, physical or mental disability.

Award Amount: $1,000 annually, renewable for up to three additional years of study. To remain eligible, students must maintain satisfactory academic standing in a STEM major or field of study.  The total dollars awarded for this scholarship is $4,000.

Online applications and additional details about this award are available online at the Scholarship Central website. To be considered for this award, students must register an online account with the Scholarship Central scholarship application system. In addition to the online application form, applicants for the Larry Carp Memorial Scholarship must submit: responses to the supplemental questions; high school and/or college transcripts; proof of financial need; two letters of recommendation; listing of work experience, organizational involvement, and community service; an essay on the role of science in advancing the human spirit; and information regarding the applicant's parents including income and occupation. All applications and supporting documents must be submitted through the online system no later than the deadline date.
